UC Santa Cruz Protesters Struck By Motorist At Demonstration

Things seem to be getting ugly over high education costs. We are on the brink of an #educationrevolution

Excerpt:

“We, stakeholders in the University of California at Santa Cruz, will strike on March 1st to demand quality and accessible public education. As fees increase across California’s higher education system, the quality of public education continues to decline. […] We are paying far more for far less, accumulating debt on top of our dismal employment prospects. These fee increases not only shackle the futures of the students inside the university, but also limit the possibilities of people outside. As workers, students, and educators, we know that a quality, accessible, public education is vital to providing paths to social mobility. The privatization of the university is an attack on communities of color, children in poverty, and the working class. We demand that priorities be adjusted to address the needs of students, teachers, workers, and communities.”

Education is always and everywhere about opening doors, opening minds, opening possibilities. Education is about opening your eyes and seeing for yourself the world as it really is in all its complexity, and then finding the tools and the strength to participate fully, even to change some of what you find.” - William Ayers

India Unveils World’s Cheapest Tablet Computer

India just announced a $35 tablet computer named, Aakash (“sky” in Hindi), which is designed to boost eLearning. The tablet is built on Android which is very cool! We admire countries and companies taking proactive initiatives to boost education.

We’re inspired and will be in touch with DataWind to put our a Cloudeas app on Aakash perhaps in the near future. As for now, we hope Aakash does very well!

Reinventing Education in San Diego

Great article how the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) is giving SD students a “technology-rich education”!

Makes us proud to be from such a forward thinking city and we hope innovative plans such as these start popping up in cities all across the US and the world! Cloudeas will definitely be there to add our support!

Read. Watch. Listen. Learn? — Facebook & the Future of Study Apps & Learning Data

Some really cool education apps being built on Facebook! Interesting to see how the ultimate school procrastination site might be changing into the go to place for students (learning-wise!).

At Cloudeas we’re excited for this transition cuz we definitely have our own ideas for a Facebook app in the pipeline! Shhh….

WB 2 skool

As absurd as this seems, one thing is for certain: teaching needs to move with the times. If educators aren’t embracing the behaviors of their students, the effectiveness of student learning will not be maximized. That’s one of the main reasons professors need to embrace technology and communication in the classroom. Restricting it to maintain traditional 18th and 19th century teaching styles will only put a limit on the quality of student learning.

Our CPO found this really cool image on how technology is changing education. As recent graduates we agree with the numbers and are excited to see technology play a larger role in the classroom.
